Ballast water is sea water that is in the bottom of the tank bottom of the vessel to stabilize the vessel when high seas.
According to AC Anil scientist at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), technology collaboration between the National Chemical Laboratory and the Mumbai University Institute of Chemical Technology is capable of killing an alien organism.
"Some of the ballast water organisms in the form of black striped mussel and algae harmful alien organisms that trigger perumbuhan without control on the local ecology. The organism is detrimental to local fishermen and marine ecological damage and create an unbalanced ecology," he said.
Ballast Water Treatment Technology is supported by the Ministry of Fisheries of India. "The system is able to kill the organism without adding chemicals or destroy the vessel, the system is obviously environmentally friendly and do not need a big budget,"said Anil.
