China Insert DNA of Human, Cow Produces Milk Quality Approach ASI

Beijing - Chinese scientists produce the milk of genetically engineered cattle that could replace the Air Susu Ibu (ASI). Genetically, cows that produce milk has been engineered in accordance with human DNA.

Researchers from China Agricultural University Laboratory Agrobioteknologi human DNA inserts in the DNA of Holstein dairy cow embryos, then embryos were put on cattle breeding.

"Genetically, modified cow's milk is 80 percent similar to human milk. Cow's milk contains most of our breast milk, in terms of proteins and antibodies that we believe is good for health and enhance the immune system," said research leader Prof Li Ning as reported by Reuters Thursday (16/06/2011).

This research led Ning, applied to cattle since 2003, having previously tested the mice. Apart from the nutritional aspect is similar to breast milk, cow's milk in terms of a sense of genetic modification is sweeter and more robust.

Now, more than 300 cows genetically modified to live in this experimental farm on the outskirts of Beijing. Research is also supported by the Chinese biotechnology company, also try to get this cow's milk can be thrown into the market within the next 3 years.

"Before the milk can be marketed, to humans, especially infants, need a rigorous safety testing. Only after this stage the government can check and approve certificates for commercial purposes," added Ning.

Behind all of their potential, this research also questioned the widely criticized by the food safety of organisms that have experienced genetic engineering, such as the health effects of the cows.
